Souvenirs

Saturday 5 September 2009,This morning I live a dream like a kid in front of a toy he so longed for. The sky is blue, bright sunshine and here I am on the quays of the port of Saint Cyprien (66), ready to embark on the legendary black aluminum schooner of 17,45 meters. eh yes, it's him, he is there in front of me, the Pen Duick III, the one who has sailed the four corners of the world with an exceptional track record for nearly 20 years.

While going on board, obviously, we can imagine the presence of the boss everywhere, Eric Tabarly, and the greatest sailors who have teamed up with him. I am one of the 10 crew members who were fortunate enough to be able to participate in the ferrying of this “black arrow” to Cap d'Agde.

Right out of the port, on a close edge, we are picked up by a well-formed sea, force 7 To 8 with gusts at 40 knots. During the first five hours of navigation, PEN DUICK III collides with waves crashing across the deck with a crashing sound. It vibrates, he pitched, he lodges. The gusts whistle on the rigging. The crew, which grips with both hands, enthusiastically participates in maneuvers.

Our eyes are lost on the horizon, our thoughts wander but we feel safe. What a great moment! we have the impression that they are there… and then, at the very bottom, straight ahead, we see the silhouette of Mont Saint Loup. There are three hours of navigation left and the conditions are better. We can send the whole canvas, remove the black jackets bleached by salt, and enjoy these exceptional moments.

It is in a warm and festive atmosphere that PEN DUIK III enters the port of Cap d'Agde, where many people welcome the arrival of this mythical schooner . So many memories ... If one day, you embark on INCA, I can share with you these magical moments.
